Biography

Matt SanGiovanni is a versatile guitarist/multi-instrumentalist whose interests span across many different genres including rock, pop, blues, jazz, funk, hip-hop, Latin, metal, classical, and musical theater. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music in Boston with a bachelor’s degree in Guitar Performance and a minor in Recording and Production. As an aspiring music producer, he is also currently enrolled in a graduate program of Music Production with Berklee Online.
 
While at Berklee, he studied with such guitar titans as Jon Finn, Julien Kasper, David Tronzo, and Scotty Johnson among others. He performed with various groups and ensembles including the Musical Theater Orchestra and Club, the Studio Recording Rhythm Section Ensemble, the Music of the Beatles Ensemble, and the Advanced Progressive Rock Ensemble. He also worked as an accompanist for Berklee’s Voice Department, as a sound engineer for the Berklee Stage Crew, and performed in Berklee’s Guitar Night Rock/Pop 2013 at the Berklee Performance Center.

Currently living in New York City, Matt is active across the city's music and theatre scenes. He has played for dozens of theatrical productions ranging from Regional Theaters to Broadway and has performed in many notable New York venues including Feinstein's/54 Below, Joe's Pub at The Public, Le Poisson Rouge, and The Signature Theatre. He has also performed with many notable stars such as Todrick Hall, Mel B, John O'Hurley, Aaron Lazar, John Tartaglia, and Jay Armstrong Johnson. His guitar can be heard on the albums I Put a Spell On You released by Broadway Records, Jay Armstrong Johnson Live @ 54 Below, Broadway Records' Carols for a Cure Vol. 18 with the Broadway hit Chicago, and Ryan Amador's Seattle Songs EP

Matt also produced, mixed, and performed on 3 singles and an 8-song album entitled Just Keep Singing for singer-songwriter and Broadway performer, Maria Wirries. Most recently, he was seen touring the world with the Broadway musicals Kinky Boots and Dear Evan Hansen, bringing him all across the United States, Canada, and China.
